The 18Plus Care leavers is large and dynamic Service, and the Social Workers play a vital role in the delivery of services to all our vulnerable care leavers and their families.

The primary requirement of this role is to support our unaccompanied asylum-seeking young people and therefore requires an experienced social worker who has worked with young people who are asylum seekers, or with those who have not been recognised as refugees but have been given a temporary form of leave to stay in the UK . The role will involve Undertaking Human Right assessments in relation to requests for a needs assessment or resources from service users who are all rights exhausted and who fall within the restricted categories in Schedule 3 of the Nationality, Immigration and Asylum Act 2002 and to also undertake Age assessment review for asylum seeking care leavers who are disputing their age.

There will also be opportunities to undertake a wide range of direct work with care leavers to formulate and progress their pathway Plans. You will be responsible for undertaking needs assessment and triple pathway planning of asylum seeking young people leaving care as this will depend on their eligibility to access service when they turn 18. The needs assessment and pathway plan must take account of the implications of the young person's immigration status on the provision of services and how their needs might be addressed as a result.

Providing support is essential to our service users so the ability to produce good assessment reports and case notes, collate information and liaise with social workers and other professionals to inform the complex panel meetings and court work is another key element of the work. Although you will be based in Kings Hill , you will also be working closely with the Leaving care teams in Dover at Thistley Hill

The role requires you to be mobile throughout a wide operational area including travelling around the county of Kent and beyond.

This post is considered by KCC to be a customer-facing position. The Council therefore has a statutory duty under Part 7 of the Immigration Act (2016) to ensure that post holders have a command of spoken English/Welsh sufficient for the effective performance of the job requirements.
