Mental Health social work in Kent has recently undergone really exciting transformation which has enabled us to develop a service based on recovery and social inclusion principles, designed to be accessible to anyone needing mental health and wellbeing support in both Primary and Secondary Care including those people who fall through the gaps between services.

We are now looking for Experienced Approved Mental Health Professionals to join our dedicated AMHP Service to further build on the achievements of the service to date and to help us offer even higher standards of care.

The role will offer you plenty of opportunities to both undertake and contribute to training initiatives and in-house core training courses, while assessing, planning and implementing Mental Health Act assessments in a variety of hospital and community settings. We are committed to working in co-production with service users and carers, within a recovery approach which maximises self-determination and empowerment. Working alongside multi-disciplinary colleagues and with other agencies, including Acute and Community Trusts and Primary Care Services and the voluntary sector you will support service users and carers through the process of a Mental Health Act Assessment.

The Kent AMHP Service currently offers a 24 hr per day, 7 days a week and 365 days per year service. AMHP’s employed to the centralised service work a mixture of 12hr day and night shifts on a shift pattern. The rota aims to be equitable and deliver a balanced rota with some weekends off and ensuring sufficient days off between shifts. A 33% shift enhancement is paid for night and weekend shifts and there are also opportunities for additional work.

With a minimum of 3 years post qualification practice experience in Mental Health, you will be educated to degree (or CQSW/DipSW) level in social work or occupational therapy with appropriate professional registration with HCPC.

You must also possess:

• A current AMHP warrant (or in the process of being warranted) and you will meet the requirements of the Practice Educator standards toward Stage 1 (or working be willing to work towards this).
• Substantial working knowledge of all relevant Mental Health and Social Care legislation and Codes of Practice. You must also have a good understanding of HCPC requirements.
• A robust working knowledge of mental health conditions and treatments, and approaches to social work intervention.
• The ability to mentor student placements and other staff. You will also have the ability to work within a multi-disciplinary environment.
• Good computer literacy and report writing skills. Excellent interpersonal skills and mediation and negotiation skills.
• An interest in leading training courses and a willingness to attend regular training opportunities. You will also need a flexible manner to working hours and locations, plus the ability to work effectively on your own initiative as well as within a team.
• A confident manner when dealing with emergency situations, plus exceptional negotiating and interpersonal skills.

External applicants are currently eligible for a £2000 “Golden Hello” payment after appointment and a £2000 Market Premium payable upon re-approving as an Approved Mental Health Professional.

This post is subject to an Enhanced Disclosure application to the Disclosure and Barring service and a relevant professional qualification (Social Work or Occupational Therapy) as well as up to date registration with the appropriate professional body.

The ability to travel across a wide geographical area in a timely and flexible manner at various times of the day is essential.

This post is considered by KCC to be a customer-facing position.
