The Mental Health Adult Safeguarding Team is a well-established specialist County Team aligned to the above newly transformed Mental Health social work Teams as well as the MH inpatient settings and Forensic Services. The team undertake the Designated Senior Officer role for adult MH safeguarding enquiries in line with S42 of the Care Act 2014. The Safeguarding team work very closely with individuals, and other agencies to promote and embed the Care Act principles and making safeguarding personal.

The service is looking to appoint a Safeguarding Coordinator in the Folkestone and Dover area. As a Safeguarding Coordinator you would be responsible for overseeing, instigating and coordinating lines of enquiries as the Local Authority Designated Senior Officer and for the key decision stages in response to safeguarding concerns, including Chairing adult safeguarding meetings. You will be central to the success of our work in enabling individuals to feel and be safe living in Kent.

You will contribute to the MH quality framework to ensure continuous improvements and provide professional safeguarding leadership and expertise to the wider staffing group. This will include undertaking peer Audits, embedding learning from good safeguarding practices, SAR’s/DHR’s and ensuring changes in legislation and policies are ingrained.

You will be expected to work as part of the County team to ensure a robust safeguarding response across the County and to utilise peer support. You will therefore need to be able to travel across the County flexibly.

With proven post qualification practice experience in adult Safeguarding and significant Mental Health experience, you will be educated to degree (or CQSW/DipSW) level in social work, occupational therapy or Nursing with appropriate professional registration e.g. HCPC.

You must also possess:

• Extensive Statutory Adult safeguarding experience and expertise including a good knowledge of mental health conditions and approaches to social work intervention.
• Thorough working knowledge of all relevant Adult Safeguarding, Mental Health and Social Care legislation and Codes of Practice with a good knowledge of national and local initiatives relating to safeguarding, mental health and social care services.
• Significant diverse experience in working with different agencies to promote wellbeing.
• Previous experience of mentoring and developing qualified Social Workers and other members of social care staff.
• Experience of research in evidence-based practice, leading to the evaluation and improvement of services and individuals’ experiences.
• A confident manner when dealing with emergency situations, plus exceptional negotiating and interpersonal skills.
• A high-level working knowledge of KCCs policies and procedures, plus a thorough understanding of HCPC and Social Work Reform Board requirements.
• Approved Mental Health Professionals will continue to contribute to the AMHP rota and supported in this role.
