We have an exciting opportunity within our Community Services for 2 Support Workers. You will work across the Dartford, Gravesham and Swanley locality, supporting individuals with learning and/or physical disabilities to access and be a part of their local community. You will be working from various hubs within this locality.

You will assist in meeting the needs and aspirations of people with learning disabilities by using a person-centred approach; providing them with encouragement and support as required. You will work towards promoting their social inclusion, promoting their rights and choice. You will work under the supervision and direction of a senior member of staff. All work will be carried out within the context of County and Directorate procedures as well as primary care legislation, to enable people with learning disabilities to live more independent and fulfilled lives.

Prior relevant experience of care and support is required. This can include voluntary, personal or paid work experience in the care and support of people with learning and/or other disabilities. It is essential that you have an awareness of the needs of people with learning disabilities, challenging behaviour, autism, epilepsy and other disabilities.

You may be expected to escort individuals on the service mini-bus in accordance with The Highway Code. You will be required to undertake training provided by the Road Safety Unit of the County Council to maintain client, staff and public safety whilst on the highway.

Please note that you will be required to apply a flexible approach to working in order to meet the needs of the business e.g. travelling across a wide geographical area in a timely and flexible manner at various times of the day in accordance with the needs of the business.

This post is considered by KCC to be a customer-facing position. The Council therefore has a statutory duty under Part 7 of the Immigration Act (2016) to ensure that post holders have a command of spoken English/Welsh sufficient for the effective performance of the job requirements.
